Quick Cash
Perhaps you’ve overspent your budget this month. Maybe you had a little too much fun around the holidays and your cash flow slipped away from you like a trout breaking free from a fisherman. One or more of your bills is in jeopardy of going tragically unpaid. Whatever the reason, it might be time to pick up some quick cash.
Quick cash is income that you can make without investing the time of a full-scale job search. There are many ways to get cash in your pockets during times of financial drought. Some involve very little work, but others involve back-breaking labor. Let’s explore these opportunities.
Garage Sale: Garage sales are wonderful ways of making quick cash. Everyone has junk cluttering up their attics, basements and closets. Use this sale as a way to clean out the dark recesses of your dwelling. Put up signs. Please remember to price your items low. Don’t be one of these people who want to sell their unwanted junk at antique-store prices. That’s not a way to make quick cash. That’s a way to sit on a lawn for a weekend next to a heap of unsold bric-a-brac.
Medical Trials: You can literally make thousands of dollars for testing drugs and procedures. That’s a lot of quick cash! There are obvious risks, and you may be excluded from many of these medical trials for any number of reasons. Some trials are as safe as church. Plus, you might get into the control group an end up eating sugar pills for a weekend. That’s a pretty good way of making quick cash. Make sure to talk to your doctor before undergoing any medical trials.
Event Work: If you live in a large metropolitan area, there will be events: Car shows, home shows, garden shows, concerts, fairs, farmer’s markets, etc. These can be a great way to get some quick cash. Are The Who coming to town? Can’t afford tickets? You might be able to work the ticket booth while they play. You can listen to them and make some quick cash.
Day Labor: Do you have a strong back? A pair of steel-toed boots? A flannel shirt? This work is not everyone’s cup of tea, but it is out there. There are many day-labor companies These companies will give a job to anyone who wants one. They pay in cash at the end of the day. That’s the best part. This isn’t the most romantic way to earn quick cash, but it is there. Think of it as a character-building exercise.
Recycling: Many states offer a nickel or more for every empty soda can or pop bottle. Instead of tossing your old cola bottles in the garbage, save them. Put them in a shed or garage until you need some quick cash. You not only help yourself, but you also help the planet.
Sell Blood/Plasma: This one is an old college-student favorite. Not only do you get quick cash, but you also get a cookie. If you’ve never donated before it can be a lengthy process, but blood banks pay more for first-time donations.
